You should locate that copy and if you don’t want to use it—because it’s now a couple of point-releases old, for example—either compress it or remove it from your drive. Do not proceed with the installation; instead, quit the installer by selecting Quit Install OS X from the Install OS X menu. Create a Bootable Version of the Yosemite Installer. Now that you have the OS X Yosemite installer downloaded to your Mac, the next step is to make a bootable copy of the installer on a USB flash drive. You need a bootable version of the installer because you'll be erasing your startup drive as part of the clean install process. In order to erase and reformat the startup drive, you'll need to start up your Mac from another device. Renaming single files was simple enough, but if you had to rename multiple files, you’d need apps like. With OS X Yosemite, however, Apple has integrated basic batch renaming capabilities directly into Finder. To use it, simply highlight or select multiple files in a Finder window, right-click (or Control-click) on the selected items, and choose Rename. Here’s an example to illustrate this process. Dark Mode Brand new in Yosemite is Dark Mode, which turns some aspects of the OS a much darker shade of grey, to make it more comfortable to use your Mac in dim lighting. These include the Finder menu bar, Dock, and application switcher. During the beta period some elements of Dark Mode, such as Finder menus, were poorly implemented, and it remains to be seen whether they have been fixed in time for the full release.

Mac OS X Yosemite has a more cleaner and eye catchy dock. There are lots of ways of launching your applications but dock i the most efficient and quick way. Mac OS X Yosemite has made the dock more comfortable and easy to access. The icons of the applications on the dock are instantly recognizable and has a consistent look and feel. The fonts of the OS have also been improved greatly and has been refined systemwide.
Maildrop, for instance – in which Mail automatically uploads email attachments up to 5GB in size to a temporary chunk of iCloud storage, appending a link to your message rather than the potentially inbox-clogging file itself – works with any email account you have set up, not just Apple’s own. Again, I’d like to see more granular control over how it works: in Maildrop’s case, you can opt to either have incoming files automatically downloaded or left in the remote store, but there’s no selective option to whitelist certain senders while holding off on others. ICloud Drive, too, has cross-platform aspirations, the multi-purpose file store accessible not only from the Yosemite Favorites bar in Finder and within the apps on iOS, but integrated into Windows with the free iCloud for Windows 4.0 plugin, and through the browser as a last resort. One caveat, though: while iCloud Drive might even play nicely with Microsoft’s platform, you should hold off from upgrading if you still have a pre-Yosemite Mac, since they’re not so lucky. There’s plenty more to OS X Yosemite – tweaks and enhancements that bubble up in everyday use. Your Mac automatically knows you were writing the email on a nearby device, and displays a notification in the lower left hand corner that lets you open the email straight away and continue writing from where you left off. Quite a lot, actually, and nearly all of it in the name of greater consistency between OS X and iOS. That's not to say that Apple is gradually merging the two operating systems – there's no evidence at all that's on the agenda. Nevertheless, several alterations and additions in Yosemite do tie OS X more closely with. Even in the early days of its tenure, Yosemite can already be counted as a success in one way. This is where using a distro becomes really useful: Yosemite Zone allows you to install extra Hackintosh drivers and, straight from the OS X Yosemite installer. The 'Customize' page essentially does the same thing as, though the layout (and most of the names of the options) are different. However, choosing the right options from this page can be really tricky, so unless you're absolutely certain about which drivers and kexts you need to install for your computer, I don't recommend installing too much stuff from here. The default selection will enable Mac OS X to boot from the hard drive without any assistance, and automatically enable audio and ethernet. For most computers, that will be enough. If you wish to install more, refer to our. Otherwise, you can figure out the rest in Step 7, where you'll actually set up your Hackintosh with Multibeast.
The other app which seems to be going stale is Game Center. While I appreciate being able to view my games, friends, and use the platform for connecting to others, there just isn't much of a reason to ever open the app itself. Most games that use Game Center for connecting to others never require you to open the app, using the platform to connect in the background.
Open the Terminal app (in /Application/Utilities), then type (or copy and paste) the following command, and then press Return: defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles 1 && killall Finder (This tells the Finder to show hidden files—we’ll re-hide such files later.) • Launch Disk Utility (in /Applications/Utilities) and then drag BaseSystem.dmg (in the OS X Install ESD volume) into Disk Utility’s left-hand sidebar. • Select BaseSystem.dmg in Disk Utility’s sidebar, and then click the Restore button in the main part of the window. • Drag the BaseSystem.dmg icon into the Source field on the right (if it isn’t already there). • Connect to your Mac the properly formatted hard drive or flash drive you want to use for your bootable Yosemite installer. • In Disk Utility, find this destination drive in the left sidebar. You may see a couple partitions under the drive: one named EFI and another with the name you see for the drive in the Finder.
(The Terminal commands I provide here assume the drive is named Untitled.) • Open Terminal and type (or copy and paste) the following commands, one by one, pressing return after each to run it. Make sure each command finishes—in other words, you see a command prompt—before running the next command. Enter your admin-level account password when prompted. Spotlight expands to the Web Just as you clicked the magnifying glass in the upper right (or Command-spacebar) to search your hard drive in Mavericks, Spotlight in Yosemite uses the same controls to deliver local results on your hard drive, and now also finds relevant results from the Web. At the bottom of the search box there are options to search the Web or Wikipedia for Golden Gate Bridge, which opens Safari to load the results. Obviously performing a spotlight search for Golden Gate Bridge in Mavericks is not ideal because it only searches the hard drive, but it illustrates why Yosemite is so much more convenient. In Yosemite, searching for Golden Gate Bridge gives you location-based results in Maps, news stories about the bridge, the associated Wikipedia entry, and any references to the bridge in your connected email accounts.
Mac OS X treats Yosemite as just another update-- there's no need to reinstall all of your kexts and drivers. Whether you're installing OS X on your computer for the first time, or just updating your computer from an older version of OS X, you'll probably have to run Multibeast after the initial installation of Yosemite.
