Bad job M$ on this one; it looks like many other users have had similar, but different, issues with the lack of a viable calendar control. Incredible that a $500 product can be so poorly executed in this regard. Hi J, The date and time picker control is part of the Windows Common controls.
There's lots out there. I can't vouch for any of them (I haven't tried any), but I do suggest before you download any that you make sure they'll work with your date format (eg mm-dd-yy vs dd-mm-yy), and as most of them are downloaded in Excel format it would be wise to run a virus scan on them before opening (although that won't save you from nasty code). I've used the Calendar control successfully on a fairly tight security network. The reason I was able to is that the Calendar Control is standard with Office Professional (and also with stand-alone Access, but I think not with stand-alone Excel), and all our PCs have Office Pro licenses, so that control was already available. Another possibility might be the standard Windows MonthCalendar and DateTimePicker controls. These are system controls, so they won't be as straightforward as using Excel or Office controls. I'm sure it's possible to access them via VBA, but I've never done so and am unlikely to be able to offer much advice should you go that path.

That certainly sounds as if it has to be installed. A quick web search seems to confirm this. If all the PCs have Office installed, though, they probably all have the Calendar control. Would that serve your purpose, or are you using some functionality of MonthView that calendar doesn't have? NB if they are running different versions of office this can get messy, as the name of the library includes the version number, so you have to reference all the versions in your project, with higher numbered versions taking precedence, to ensure it will work on all. Try a web search on 'vba calendar'.
The control is not available in the 64 bit versions of Windows. It can be made available and will work with 32 bit versions of Office only, but it requires access to the operating system and this is going to get you into trouble with your employers. It might be better to use a VBA date picker (if you can get permission to do so). The one I like to use is the one produced by Trevor Eyre and available from Graham Mayor - Word MVP.
The only thing to do is to migrate the Calendar Class into your existing application, and use it in your future projects. It was a huge project, a tremendous thing for us. We spent approx. 20 days with it, mainly the late-night hours. The team-work was very effective, rousing and funny - we really enjoyed it! We are stopping now at version 50 - this works well for almost all of the cases.

Hi: I'm attempting to update a MSA 2003 DB that utilized the old Calendar control. I'm referrencing this article:, however when I try to follow the steps to use the steps descibed as 'Use the Windows DatePicker control, part of the Windows Common Controls', I am stuck as the 'Microsoft DatePicker' control is not listed in the ActiveX controls. I've added a reference to 'mscomctl.ocx' to my database. Still nothing. This is on a relatively new Win7 64 / Office 2010 installation. I'm perplexed that something as simple as updating the calendar control on a form has taken 2+ hours of work / research and I'm still dead-in-the-water.

I can say that you don't have the permissions to copy the file on c drive. Please try to copy the file with administrator rights then you will not get this error message. I think Windows is opening the CAB file contents in a window, the same as if you opened a.ZIP file. Opening the window doesn’t extract the files; it just shows you the CAB’s contents. You need to copy the.ocx file out of the CAB and somewhere useful. This should do the trick: • Delete the extra copies of your CAB file, keeping only the one you initially downloaded.

ActiveX DLL’s need to have a registry entry created to associate the program classes inside the DLL with the physical location of the file. This way, when a program tries to invoke something like “SomeCompany.CalendarControl”, Windows knows that the class “SomeCompany.CalendarControl” is in that OCX file. To make this link, you need to use regsvr32. • Click Start and type CMD • click the “cmd.exe” or the “Command Prompt” icon • in the command prompt: • type cd c: windows syswow64 and press ENTER • type regsvr32 mscomct2.ocx • if this completes successfully, you can close the window., you almost got it right, but missed changing to the syswow64 folder. As an optional step, you can associate regsvr32 with OCX files, so that double-clicking them registers them.

So MS doesn't think that people/developers would be needing this in due course? I installed the 64bit version because I'm running the Win8 64bit version. And I deal with a lot of large spreadsheets and can't afford to sleep whilst they decide to load. If MS included all the other ActiveX controls and some obscure ones, surely some bright spark could have thought that something as useful as MonthView should be included as 'basic' necessity when dealing with forms and sheets? Perhaps you could pass the suggestion up the line. There are a lot of other people out there having the same problem.

If you’re only doing this once, don’t bother with these steps. • Right-click the OCX • click Open With • find regsvr32 in the Windows system32 directory • Make sure to check the box to make this default action. Calendar Control v1.2.0 - with Office 2016 compatibility In a recent Microsoft Windows security patch, the button transparency settings are rendered ineffective. This is the same story as the Mac version you see in v1.0.2. In the original design of the Calendar Control class we use transparent buttons, because the button's text has a fix minimum 6 pixel upper inset which pushes the text off the bottom when the button is small. I have an Excel spreadsheet with a user form that uses the calendar control. It works fine on my machine, but others can't use it because they are missing the mscomct2.ocx file. I found where to download it (), but it comes down as a cab file, and I'm not sure how to tell others to use that file. My internet searches point to a variety of solutions from copying it to the system32 file to registering it using regsrv32. I was hoping somebody here could give me layman's instructions, as I hate to ask these other users to try five different things.
Microsoft does have a builtin one that works for textboxes and bound controls. But If you want a unbound datetimepicker. You can take a standard textbox and set the 'format' property to some sort of date format and the 'Show Date Picker' property to 'For dates', and it will show the drop down calendar type control on the right of your textbox when you click into it.
