Losing is what Sachiko hates the most. She also hates the the place where sakura and gingko trees grew where Shimako and Yumi often had lunch.

Pic 10: Nana Akiyama as Eriko, slightly goofy. XD Pic 11: Rikako Sakata as Rei, looking worried. Pic 12: Riho (Shimako) with that dewy look. Wonder if she could match Mamiko Noto in the voice department. Pic 13: Hitomi Miyake (Yoshino), in the same quiet state as her first episode persona.

Many, many thanks to the efforts and sacrifice of Bruce for making it possible for me to buy this movie in Tokyo. As several people have noted, this was not easy to find on shelves, as it had pretty much sold out in pre-orders. The good news for overseas fans is that Amazon JP still has both the and the in stock. Being the bad otaku I am, I only bought the DVD, so missed out on some of the extras in the Blu-Ray combo set. ( ) [13 Dec 2011 02:58pm] Hi! I'm posting to gauge interest for some merchandise. I hope to sell some of the Japanese region 2 DVDs. I have the, and the and from Haru. I also am looking to sell all of the image albums, the OSTs from the first and second seasons, and the OP single for the first season. I'm thinking maybe like $15-20 for the image albums at least. I wanted to post this first because since the series has been licensed, I don't know if anyone would want the region 2 DVDs.

By chance Yumi meets second year student Sachiko Ogasawara (Haru), who is a candidate to become a Red Rose. Sachiko later offers her rosary to Yumi Fukuzawa which signifies she will become an older sister to Yumi. Meanwhile, Yumi, who already looks up to popular Sachiko, is perplexed why she is picked. A festival named 'Cinderella' then approaches, which is run by the Yamayuri Council. Conflicts between the older and younger sisters soon begins. There were quite a number of differences from the anime and the film. But other than that, the story was somehow retained from the anime to the live-action itself. For example, in the anime, Katsura was the first person that was seen to be with Yumi as a classmate and the one to tell Yumi about the Rosas and other gossips. But in the movie, it was Tsutako who is mostly with her and that they were classmates. Also in the anime, Shimako was seated at the front row of the class but the film shows that she's at the back row.

There are no subtitles for this movie, and as much as I hope that someone will license this, I would not bank on it. Sato Sei She is most jealous of Sei because of her closeness to Yumi as seen in the first and second season. Whenever she comes inside the Rose Mansion, she sees Sei hugging Yumi or even kissing her on the cheek making her quietly mad at them and even scolds both of them.

As I commented on my original, the actresses were each picked for a specific quality, so it was very easy to see “Youko” or “Sei” in them. Sachiko and Yumi are almost instantly lovable, IMHO. I liked that Sachiko starts to touch Yumi without realizing that she’s doing it. Set in an old, wooden building, with creaky floors and small rooms, there’s a festive air of not-too-much-but-just-enough verisimilitude about the recreation of Lillian Jogakuen. Early on, there is an unexpected time lapse of Musashino City, so we are forced to imagine that this school is real, not just some fantasy space, like Astrea Hill. The DVD includes the “Making Of” special, the trailer for the movie and the pre-movie in-theater “do not take pictures, eat loudly, make phone calls or give your soeur a rosary” warning animations, which were so amusing when I saw this in the theater. Maria-sama ga Miteru – When Yumi Fukuzawa entered the Lillian Girls’ Academy, a prestigious all-girls Catholic school in Tokyo, she never imagined she would catch the eye of beautiful and demure Sachiko Ogasawara, one of the school’s most popular students. Now Sachiko has offered to be Yumi’s soeur, her “sister” and guide for all her years at the academy. The whole idea has Yumi completely flustered—after all, they hardly know each other! The entire campus is abuzz with rumors about the two of them, but Yumi is conflicted over accepting Sachiko’s offer. While she admires Sachiko, being her soeur would also mean constantly being at the center of the entire school’s attention!

Rei and Yoshino says that they were merely having a 'Harmless-Sisters-Quarrel' and that they are just joking around. By the time Sachiko had emptied her cup, Yumi stands and offers another cup as if they were back to normal again. Shimako and Noriko were surprised at the sudden change of their behavior, not understanding anything.

~ i honestly feel the anime version is. ~ otherwise enjoy! [23 Oct 2011 05:57pm] [ mood calm ] As I'm reading this announcing the adaptation made more than a year before, well, my general assessment of the film was that of happy satisfaction, in which the flick was faithful to the original light novel. First off, whoever did the casting did his/her homework properly (presumably read the LNs and watched all four seasons of the anime adaptation); each lead character, while their physique and hairstyle were sometimes a wee different from the original, their voices and characterizations were nevertheless spot-on good or even fabulous (heck, the girl who played Shimako sounded almost like Mamiko Noto, ditto for the actress playing as Sei Satou). Brilliantly, they also picked the setting and filming location close enough to the original, down to the old-style wooden desks and the (slightly creaking) wood flooring. It gives you the feeling that you're in the real Lillian. What about story?
